No Love Lost, Only Minnesota's Gain

Happy Monday everybody! Now that we're back in the saddle and everyone enjoyed their weekend, lets get back to the hard wood. There is a special player in the league that is really having a breakout season and he is very hard to miss. Every night on the television I see his stat line scroll across the bottom of the screen and my eyes almost pop out. I say to myself, "Really? He did it again?" The man in the middle for the Minnesota Timberwolves, Kevin Love, is showing how he can dominate games in only his third year. Love is averaging an astounding 20 points and 15 rebounds per game. Not only are those averages big for any franchise, there are a few games sprinkled in between in which Love cleaned the glass for 20 and even 30+ rebounds. Point blank, the guy is an animal. In his last three games, Love's rebounding statistics go 21, 18, 15 to go along with 22, 27 and 23 points. So how come Love is able to get so free around the basket and dominate you ask. I think it's because he's that good. When Love entered the league, he was always a bit slower in my opinion. He wasn't able to really explode to the rim and finish with rim rattling dunks, though I'm sure he has in his career. Love is the epitome of fundamental in my eyes. His rebounding edge comes from being able to use his 6'10'' frame and box out opponents. He uses his size to his advantage and puts himself in position almost at will. If you look at it as being in the right place at the right time you'd be exaggerating a tad because his skill level is better than that. His scoring ability is so savvy and slick, Love gets his inside and out. While at UCLA for a year, his passing and offensive basketball IQ was mentioned time and time again. Well, for good measure, that IQ has translated and possibly risen since his inception with the Timberwolves. Hitting the open jumper to and beyond the three point line is a very nice weapon for the 6'10'' Love. Also, finishing with touch around the rim and using his body to draw fouls is something Love will be known for throughout his career. Love is a fantastic talent to watch in the NBA and has a bright future ahead. Minnesota may be struggling right now in the wins column at 6-18 for the year, but you can make the argument it's not because of this budding talent. Love and the T'Wolves take on the Warriors tonight and then Phoenix on Wednesday. Look for more big stats from the, "Love Doctor," and possibly a W on the road.
